I remember a spectacular row with my husband while trying to navigate the roads around Exeter in the days before Sat Navs. It resulted in him taking the road atlas from me and ripping it up and throwing it out of the window :) <br />As you discovered Dartmoor is a magical place but some of the roads are very narrow. I really must start looking out for some of these yarn shops on future visits. It was winter 1987 and I'd flown Into Chicago late at night from Montreal. It was the first time I'd driven an automatic and I was on the second week of a tiring business trip. But I was also young and confident. Anyway from 0'Hare I was heading for the centre of Chicago and I got hopelessly lost. The only option was to head back to the bright lights of O'Hare, regroup and try again. The second time I made it to my hotel parking lot. The next morning I woke to about two feet of snow and was planning to cancel all my appointments but by the time I'd had breakfast (blueberry muffins - another first) the snow ploughs had been. After that first terrifying night I really enjoyed driving in the States, the steady speed, staying in the same lane, no overtaking - altogether much more civilised than the UK. And I know that big roundabout off the motorway to Exeter. It is a complete nightmare and we avoid it at all costs. Well done to you! I know Mevagissey well as we've holidayed there many times - my mother-in-law is from that part of the world. Those narrow country lanes can be scary though!
